Local food

Our favourite part of what we do is showcasing Iceland's wonderful local produce for our guests. All our cooking is home-style, made from scratch. We make it a priority to offer you delicious food - the perfect way to start your day, or to end it.

Breakfast:

Breakfast is included in the room rates, and is usually served from 7:00 to 9:30. Our buffet selection includes cereals, yogurts, home-baked bread, and various cheeses and hams. To drink, there's tea, coffee and juice.

Dinner:

We don't have a communal kitchen for guests to do their own cooking, and the guesthouse is a 30-minute drive to the closest restaurants. So, we host a dinner party every evening for our guests!

We have found that our guests appreciate the social nature of these dinner parties - candles, music, some wine and good conversation with fellow travellers. Our menu changes regularly but usually includes soup, meat and fish plus vegetables and salads, and a dessert.

We source all our meat and fish locally, and as much produce as possible comes from the farms in the area.

Please note, dinner is served around 7:30 each evening. It is not included in the room rates, and to help us with planning, bookings for dinners are required. Wine and beer are available to purchase on the premises.

With advance notice, we are very happy tp cater to dietary requirements such as vegetarians, vegan, gluten free, and lactose free food.

Borgarfell farm:

Our dear friends Sigfús and Lilja are the farmers of Borgarfell. Our familises have known each other since we started our guesthouse in Hrifunes 2007 when we caught their sheap eating all our herbs outside our window.

They are responsible farmers and put such pride in their work. Borgarfell is a sheep farm in Skaftártunga that produce their own local meat from lamb and mutton. The production is bought directly from the farm.

All the meat we serve at Glacier View Guesthouse is from Borgarfell.

Litla fiskbúðin (The Little Fishstore) in Hafnarfjörður:

When Elin and Borgar are not in Hrifunes they live in Hafnarfjörður. There, the local fishmonger is Litla Fisbúðin (The Small Fishstore) where the monger puts much pride in selling his freshest fish.

We buy fresh fish in Hafnarfjörður and have it transported daily to Hrífunes to serve it in the evening.

At Glacier View all our fish is from the Little Fishstore.
